Day 01. Arrive Paro (By Druk Air flight):
If you arrive early we shall start the journey by visiting Tamchog Lhakhang towards Thimphu. It is privately owned monastery located between Paro and Thimphu. After lunch visit the tallest standing Bhudha over looking Thimphu valley. This massive statue of Shakyamuni measures in at a height of 51.5 m, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. 125,000 smaller Buddha statues have been placed within the Buddha Dordenma statue; 100,000 statues of which are 8-inches-tall and 25,000 statues of which are 12 inches tall. Each of these thousands of Buddhas have also been cast in bronze and gilded. The throne that the Buddha Dordenma sits upon is a large meditation hall. Dinner and over night in Hotel.
Day 02 Thimphu Sightseeing: After breakfast visit the folk Textile museum that showcase the Royal Robe of our great Kings of Bhutan and many historical monuments is been displayed here. The location of this museum is in the main city area. Visit to simply Bhutan museum where you can experience the shooting of archery the national game of Bhutan followed by different activities. In the evening you shall have leisure time.
Day 03. Thimphu – Punakha: (70 Kms, 2.5 hours drive). The drive begins with visit to oldest Dzongs of Bhutan called simtokha Dzong almost 500 years old. Further drive to Punakha via Dochula pass. On a clear day the views are excellent with 360degree view of the snowcapped Himalayan Ranges. As you drive down to Punakha you shall also visit the temple of Devine madman saint name called Lama Drukpa Kuenley. The monastery is also named as fertility temple and many local people believed to have received the baby after praying in this monastery.
After lunch visit the beautiful Punakha Dzong the winter resident of Je Khenpo followed by longest suspension bridge connecting two small village. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.
Day 04 – Punakha – Gangtey: The journey to Gangtey from Punakha is just 2 hours but due to road condition it may take 3 hours. After reaching phobjikha there is a beautiful nature trail leading to the hotel which takes 45 minutes. Explore the valley through hike. Visit Gangtey monastery, Gyaltse Pema Thinley, the grandson and mind reincarnation of Pema Lingpa founded the Temple in 1613, and Tenzin Legpai Dhendup, the second re-incarnation, built the temple. The present Abbot, Kunzang Pema Namgyal is the ninth re-incarnation. It is a Nyingmapa monastery and is affiliated to other Nyingmapa monasteries including Tamshing in Bumthang. Explore Phobjikha valley, famous for the Black Necked Cranes during winter. Dinner and over night in Hotel.
Day 05. Gangtey – Thimphu: After breakfast, drive to Thimphu. After lunch, visitFolk HeritageMuseum and Excursion to Cheri Monastery. Dinner and over night in Hotel.
Day 06. Thimphu to Paro, Excursion to Taktsang Monastery: We shall start early from Thimphu. The drive from Thimphu to Paro takes 1 hours till the base of Tiger nest. The hike is almost 3hours from the base till the monastery. The guide will assist you.This incredible monastery clings to the edge of a sheer rock cliff that plunges 900 meters into the valley below. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava, the tantric mystic who brought Buddhism toBhutan in 747 AD, flew here on the back of a flying tiger, Dorji Drolo, said to be his favourite consort.
After lunch if the time permit we shall visit Ta Dzong (built in 1656 and renovated in 1968), an ancient watchtower, which now houses the NationalMuseum. Below the museum is the Rimpung Dzong (literally meaning “Heap of Jewels”), the centre of civil and religious authority in this valley, built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Over night in Hotel.
Day 07. Departure: Early morning, drive to the airport and farewell.
